Gynzy is an interactive whiteboard tool for educators. It is free for anyone who creates an account, and offers a variety of tools that work directly on the board. These tools are separated into five sections: "Language Arts," "Mathematics," "Science," "Social Studies," and "Extra." Each section has unique and often complex tools that can be used like manipulatives on the whiteboard. A few examples include a Pyramid Chart, a Student Attendance Tracker, a way to embed Youtube, and an hourglass timer. The board section itself includes a text tool, a shape tool, a pen tool, an eraser tool, and shortcuts to popular tools. Overall, although Gynzy is more difficult to learn how to use than most educational technology, but once it is mastered it is extremely adaptable and interactive.
This tool is strongly connected to Domain 3 of the Danielson Framework, Instruction. Gynzy is useful for communicating information to students by using the various kinds of organizers (some of which are depicted below) to convey concepts (3a). It can also prompt discussion by permitting students to use it as a digital whiteboard to indicate areas of interest and respond to key questions (3b). Using an interactive tool such as Gynzy can be highly engaging students (3c). The way that Gynzy is set up allows quizzes and activities to be utilized as well (3d). Finally, Gynzy can be adapted to a variety of purposes in different subjects.
I can use Gynzy in my classroom to take attendance, make interactive games, and create activities for concepts in literature. For example, I might use it to compare and contrast two characters, allowing students write responses on the format of the whiteboard. I might also use story starters or story dice to prompt creative writing assignments. Furthermore, there is a Poetry and Prose library, connected directly with state standards, that can be used to study English. Gynzy has other tools that could be used to engage students while they are completing other activities, such as a fireplace that could serve as a background to an in-class reading.
