Canva is an online tool for creating posters, graphics, and presentations. It offers dozens of free pre-made templates that can be edited to suit various purposes. The tool is user-friendly and intuitive, providing ways to line up text and images evenly and allowing images to be turned in any direction. Graphics and text can be layered without becoming unmanageable. There are free backgrounds and photos to choose from on Canva, and images can be uploaded from other sources. Overall, Canva is accessible, adaptable, and suitable for professional work.
Within the context of the Danielson Framework, Canva can be used in the Instruction Domain. Communication with students is a major part of instruction, and posters and infographics created by Canva can convey important information clearly. Teachers can also engage their students' interests by permitting them to create projects using Canva. The flexibility of the tool makes it an attractive alternative to more familiar presentation options such as Powerpoint. Elements that are offered that would be helpful for students projects include photos, grids, shapes, charts, illustrations, icons, frames, and dividing lines.
In my classroom, I would be interested in using Canva for creating handouts, posters, and presentations. I would provide this tool to my students as an option for projects and presentations. For example, students could create a comic strip inspired by a short story. To do this, they could put together drawings, free
images, and dialogue on Canva.
