Organizing physical space is a major part of creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. The priorities of classroom organization vary for primary, middle level, and high school. In primary level classrooms, areas may be sectioned off for certain activities. In middle level and high school classrooms, seating arrangement is emphasized, and the need for students to collaborate is considered when deciding the layout. Safety and accessibility are essential. Teachers must be aware of any dangers such as fire hazards and obstructions, and model for students how to organize and clean after using materials. Teaching these skills to students can encourage responsibility and help them to recognize safety concerns.
