This component includes respectful teacher-student interactions, sensitivity to student needs, and building relationships with students. In a classroom that properly displays these attributes, students will support one another and engage in respectful collaboration and discussion. The teacher will know their students well and respect their dignity. Actions and words on the part of the teacher will convey genuine care and interest in the successes and needs of the student. Active listening is a major part of creating an environment of respect and rapport - when the students and teacher are receptive and responsive to what is being said.
